Annual Meeting

The Tabor Lake Association Annual Meeting (and picnic) was held on Saturday, July 25. Shirley and Greg Bauer were the gracious hosts, and a fun and informative time was had by all. We said hi to old friends and also welcomed some new people to the lake. Hope to see you there next year!

  1. Call to order, Greg Bauer gave some welcome remarks including welcoming Cindy and John Neeck along with their son Cody and Cindy’s sister, Carin as the newest property owners on the lake ( in the NW corner of the north bay). There were 13 members present.

  2. Treasurer’s Report- Marie Cook. Bal. $3,630.63. Approved $250 to Danbury FD. Approved $50 to loon watch donation- Sigurd Olson Institute. Approved up to $350 to the town of Swiss for work needing to be done on the boat Landing in particular dredging/widening.

  3. Website updates- Jim Wassenberg. The website has been updated to include a number of amenities and links. Our new website is taborlakeassociation.org.

  4. Board member elections (Jim, Marie & Dave have agreed to serve another term). Approved unanimously.

  5. Internet access around the lake- Keith Mason noted that Verizon has a $50 a month program if people are interested.

  6. Loon report- Keith Mason. We had a loon nest twice in the North Bay with the first nest having three broken eggs. The new nest on the man-made float has one egg that the loons apparently have abandoned. We were informed by Pat Steingruebl that there are 18 pairs of loons in Burnett County who have offspring and that eagles are the number one predator of loons.

  7. Curly leaf pondweed- Keith Mason. First discovered in 2021 by Burnett County. This is our fifth year of harvesting CLP. There were two new spots found in the lake near the Eagles nest. This year there were 81 hours of which approximately 60 were by Keith Mason. This is down from last year which had 120+ hours. There’s significant CLP in Loon Creek.

  8. Other AIS - Keith Mason. The Japanese Knotweed is still being handled by Burnett County on the north property of Loon Creek. At the time of the meeting, there were no Chinese mystery snails located in Tabor Lake. (Additional note: three mystery snails were located at the Bauer/Lee property on Sunday, July 26 the day after this meeting. 2 alive and 1 dead.)

  9. Water clarity – Keith Mason. Keith reported that Tabor Lake is one of the top rated lakes in the state of Wisconsin with excellent oxygen levels. Very good clarity on our lake. July 10th Secchi disk reading was 16 feet which allows sunlight to penetrate down as deep as 24 to 30 feet.

  10. It is not possible at this time to move a pontoon boat between the boat landing and the lake due to cattail growth. Cattail removal to the boat landing was approved by the Wisconsin DNR. We will be doing the removal in mid to late August and we are looking for volunteers. (Note, on Sunday, July 26, Keith Mason and Greg Bauer found access to the Lee property directly across from the boat Landing to dispose of the cattails in a proper composting way.)

  11. Public boat landing update- Keith Mason. People at the meeting were advised that our boat landing is a public boat landing, and they were also concerned that it is too shallow for many boats to be put in the lake. We will be notifying the town of Swiss, (who are technically owners of the boat landing) that we request some dredging to deepen it and $350 was approved to help with any costs for dredging.
